E-book rags to hardcover riches: Self-published novelist inks seven-figure deal with Penguin

Life just got more interesting for Iowa author Tracey Garvis-Graves – seven figures more interesting. Penguin Group’s Plume imprint picked up her self-published novel, “On the Island,” inking a two-book deal that Garvis-Graves told the Des Moines Register came with “a goodseven figures.”
Since its publication in March (after many rejections from both agents and firms), the novel has spent weeks on the Amazon best-seller list. After a paperbook edition was brought out, it climbed the New York Times charts for combined e-book and print sales.
